Can I breast feed my baby after vaccination?

After a Vaccination Shot, the only way to make your baby calm is by giving maternal care. However, to be on the safer side it is better to give breastfeeding a miss for at least 30 minutes post vaccination.

What should I do when my child is having fever?

Sponging with tapwater, paracetamol in proper dosages , plenty of liquids orally

May I stop medicines if my child is better after 2 doses of medicine?

No, You got to complete the medicine session prescribed by the doctor.

When should I rush to emergency during illness?

1. Does not Breast feed
2. Cold body or lethargic
3. Breathing difficulty or looks blue
4. Yellow palms or soles
5. Fits or convulsing
6. Bleeding from anywhere in the body

What precautions should i take during constant fits and fever?

1) Stay calm and act fast to prevent an injury:

  • Move your child to a safe place (like the floor) so she can’t fall.
  • Roll her onto her side so she doesn’t choke on saliva or vomit.
  • Don’t put anything in your child’s mouth.
  • Don’t hold her down or try to control the convulsions.

2) Call your doctor after it’s over. Your child may need to be seen to find out what’s causing the fever.

What to do if my child is convulsing at home?

Place your child on the floor on his or her side and clear away objects that are in close proximity. Loosen tight clothing surrounding the head or neck. Don’t put anything in your child’s mouth or try to stop the convulsion unless  your pediatrician has told you what to do.

My child is not eating well. What can I do?

  • Sit and eat with your child.
  • Offer new foods many times.
  • Give your child enough time to eat.
  • Let your children feed themselves.
  • Keep mealtimes calm and reduce distractions.
  • Try offering the same food in different ways

I am on antibiotics. Can I feed my baby?

In most cases, antibiotics are safe for breastfeeding parents and their babies. “Antibiotics are one of the most common medications mothers are prescribed,  and all pass in some degree into milk.

How frequently does a well doing newborn needs to visit a pediatrician?

Newborn period is considered first 28 days of life. Five visits are recommended during this crucial period. These are on day 1, day3, day7, day 14 and day 28. Additional visits may be required as per baby’s health condition. Ideally, at least 1 antenatal visit in last trimester (7th to 9th month of pregnancy) should be done to counsel mother about newborn care.

We are first time parents. How can we ensure safety of our child from accidents?

  • Never let a child play on a street with traffic.
  • Watch for a swinging door
  • Keep all sharp objects like scissors, blades, knives etc out of reach.
  • Take care while handling hot utensils or hot tea when child is around.

How can I save my child from excessive use of screens?

  • Spend quiet time outside. Electronic games and educational TV shows can exercise the brain, but they can also overstimulate it.
  • Read them stories and books.
  • Play sports and let them just play!
  • Plan and go on road trips.
  • Have assigned chores.
  • Keep screens out of the bedroom.
  • Schedule screen time.
